School Closures: The school will be closed on Friday 15th Monday 18th Tuesday 19th for Midterm Break and Wednesday 20th February 2019 for Staff Development.
Catholic School’s Week: Thanks to everyone who took part in the Catholic School’s Week Mass on Sunday the 27th of January. A special word of thanks to Mrs. Edel Trotter who prepared the children’s choir.
The celebration continues with our postponed assembly for all our Grandparents on Tuesday the 5th of February.
The assembly begins at 10am and will last approximately 1hour. This assembly is specially for Grandparents but we understand parents may need to help/transport Grandparents. If there is a very large attendance Grandparents will be allocated seating first.
We hope many of the Grandparents can stay on for tea and light refreshments afterwards.
First Holy Communicants Key Dates:
First Holy Communion Parents Meeting: St. Ronan’s P.S 7pm on Wednesday the 13th of February.
Enrolment Mass for Communicants at 10am on Sunday the 17th of February in St. Mary’s Church.
First Confession will take place in St. Mary’s Church on Wednesday 27th February 2019 at 7.30pm.
Enrolment Ceremony for Confirmation class at 11.30am Mass on Sunday the 3rd of March in Holy Cross Church.
Multi-Cultural Day: P.5-P.7 children will have a wonderful opportunity to immerse themselves in aspects of Polish (Dance), African (Music) and Chinese (Craft) on Friday the 11th of February when we will have a number of tutors visiting through the Fermanagh & Omagh District Council’s Good Relations Programme.
World Book Day: We will celebrate World Book Day on Thursday 7th March. We would like your child to dress up as a character from a Book to mark the occasion. We expect this to be a fun day for all, using clothes they have at home. Teachers will provide the children with ideas in class. Prizes (book vouchers) will be given for the best dressed in each class.
P.7 – P.2 & 3 Book Buddies:
Back again for the second year involving the P.7’s and 2’s & 3’s on Friday mornings this term. The P.7’s pair with P.2/P.3 pupils and read to them one to one. The key aims of the programme are to develop a love of books, model good reading habits and further encourage reliability and responsibility among the older children.
Cumann na mBunscol
Boys & Girls Indoor Hurling & Camogie Blitz Good luck to all the Key Stage 2 boys and Girls who will compete in the Hurling and Camogie Blitz on Friday 8th February in the Castle Park Centre at 10am.
Quiz Good luck to the 4 P.7’s who are representing the school in the Cumann na mBunscol quiz in the Irvinestown on Wednesday the 13th of February.
Indoor Soccer: P.6 & 7 boys will compete in an indoor 5 a side soccer competition in the Lakeland Forum on Monday the 4th February 10.30am to 2pm, children will require trainers and a packed lunch.
Swimming Programme:On Tuesday the 5th & 12th of February the main hall in the Lakeland Forum is being used for a special event. We will therefore only swim that day and not play other sports. Cost £3 on these days with swim only.
Primary 6 Parents: Primary 6 Homework club will begin on Thursday the 9th of February. Children should be picked up from school at 4.30pm
Clothes Collection Fundraising: At this time of year many of you will be doing an early Spring clear out to make way for the recent Christmas purchases. To help with this, we are running a School Clothes Collection Fundraiser.
Bring any unwanted clothes for our clothes collection to the school during the month of February, leave bags of clothes in the outside store on the gable end of Mr. Prunty’s classroom.
Important, once the clothes have been collected we will not be collecting again for another year. The company can only accept the following items: Clothing (Men’s, Woman’s and Children’s), Household textiles i.e. curtains, towels, paired shoes, handbags and belts.
Cancer Connect As part of our Whole School Eco Initiative we are linking up with Cancer Connect to provide a number of Health Promoting Workshops to the children on Friday 8th February. The workshops are fun and interactive which are set at age appropriate levels for each class.
Shared Education: P.6 & 7 class are working with their Shared Ed. counterparts in Maguiresbridge P.S on the Young Enterprise project. The children are working together to set up a mini business and create a product they can then sell on at a profit and in so doing engage with the local community. The children will have a Bring and Buy Sale in school on Thursday the 14th of February. If you have any old toys etc. please donate them to the sale. We will be hoping ch’n will buy from the sale on this day, prices ranging from 10p – £4. The money used from the sale will be reinvested in their business to buy raw materials for their product.
Tim Mc Crea a local inventor/entrepreneur will be having a Q & A with the children on Friday the 22nd of February as part of the Young Enterprise Program.
Classes continue fortnightly during the month of February, 13th and 27th of February.
A word of thanks to Dan Trotter who dismantled, relocated and reassembled the children’s playhouse. The house can now be accessed more safely and securely during play for children in the Foundation Stage.
