“Learning Together”

www.stmarysmaguiresbrdige.com

"The children are clearly proud of their school and their behaviour is exemplary. They are confident, highly motivated and engage fully in their learning. The children settle quickly in their lessons, listen carefully and respectfully to the adults and to each other and are keen to contribute to discussions and to present their ideas. They respond very well to the high expectation set by all of the staff.

The outstanding quality of the arrangements for pastoral care in the school is characterised by the inclusive and child centred ethos, and the excellent working relationships underpinned by mutual respect amongst all members of the school community.”

Education Training Inspectorate Report 2014

St. Mary's Primary School is a Maintained School, which admits boys and girls aged from 4 (Reception) to 11.  It is set in its own pleasant grounds on the outskirts of Maguiresbridge.  Our pupils come from the village of Maguiresbridge and the surrounding countryside as well as from the town of Lisnaskea.

The school was founded in 1966 and has five classrooms: one of which (P.1 classroom) has its own toilet and cloakroom area while one is a mobile. All five classrooms have their own Interactive Whiteboards and are well resourced. There is a multi-purpose dining hall, also with a IWB, which is used for physical education, music, assemblies, meeting concerts and other school functions.

The school’s outdoor play facilities are excellent with three separate all weather play areas as well as a fantastic grass playing pitch for the children’s use. We have also renovated and extended the P1 classroom and provided a new P1 outdoor play area including a performance area. These outdoor spaces provide ideal opportunities for the staff to enhance the children’s learning experiences in a fun way through exploration, investigation and roleplay.

Curriculum

Curriculum in St. Mary’s is the learning experiences that are present for each child, those planned by the staff and those absorbed from our school ethos and environment.  When planning our curriculum, we take into account the uniqueness of each child and his/her individual needs. Our pupils enjoy exciting and enriching educational experiences which enable them to fulfil the Revised Northern Ireland Curriculum requirements with enthusiasm.

We place an emphasis on our children developing skills and capabilities which they will use throughout their lives, building on their Primary School skills well into their adulthood.

Extra Curricular Activities

We take great pride as a school community in the various extra curricular activities which the children are involved in St. Mary’s and the great successes they have achieved over the years including County Champions in Netball, Soccer, Gaelic, Cross Country, overall School Winners in Feis Art, Verse and Handwriting. All of these successes point to the importance we place on our children participating in extra curricular activities.

Community

The school seeks to promote a friendly caring atmosphere and parents are always welcome to visit the school.

We take great pride in our close relations within school, parents and wider community. Parents provide support in various areas of school life, fundraising, sporting events, school functions out of hours school trips etc.

This coming year the children and staff of St. Mary’s P.S and Maguiresbridge P.S are very excited by their participation in their own Shared Education opportunities. Our children will be involved in a variety of interesting and enjoyable learning experiences which they will share with each other.
