SCHOOL CLOSURES - The school will close on Monday the 17th of June for Staff Development and Friday the 28th June at 12pm for the summer holidays and will re-open on Monday 2nd September 2019.

CLASS ARRANGMENTS FOR 2019-2020
P.1 & Reception and Curriculum support 2pm-3pm will be taught by Mrs. O Hanlon.
P.2 and Curriculum support 2pm-3pm will be taught by Mrs King.
P.3 to be confirmed.
P.4 & 5 will be taught by Ms Gordon (formerly Mrs Quinn).
P.6 will be taught by Mrs Cassidy
P.7 will be taught by Mr. Prunty
Mr. Prunty will have one day a week Principal release next year on a day to be confirmed.
MINOR WORKS – Essential Fire Safety Works has been scheduled to start in school on Monday the 24th of June. The major works of will commence during the holidays. Some of the visible works will include, fire safe doors, wheelchair refuge outside both classrooms leading onto the playground, new alarm system, office hatch, door into the library from the hall, bin storage area outside etc.
MUD KITCHEN – NIALL INGRAM - We would sincerely like to thank Niall Ingram for the excellent addition of a Mud Kitchen for the Foundation Stage Children to play outdoors. The kitchen will be used daily to greatly enhance the learning experiences of the children in the Early Years – Thank you Niall.
SLIABH BEAGH – thanks to Donna Bannon for organising and facilitating the Bog project which the P.6 & 7 children have been involved in which included trip to Sliabh Beagh Bog in Co. Monaghan. For some of the children it was their first trip to a bog and they learned about the flora and fauna of the bog. A follow up presentation will happen later in the month.
PARENT QUESTIONNAIRE – If you haven’t already please take time to complete the online questionnaire, follow the link from the text sent in May. The questionnaire will close at the end of June.
SCHOOL REPORTS - Annual Pupil Reports will be sent home in the children’s bags on the last Tuesday in June, a text will be sent on that Tuesday to remind parents.
LEAVERS ASSEMBLY - We will be having our Leaver’s Assembly on Friday 21st June at 10am in the school assembly hall. The Assembly will take the format of prayer, song, dance and a recollection of memories by Ciara, Ava, Aimee, Molly, Aoife, Aoibhe-Rose, Colleen, Rory, Finn, Michael, Luke, Ferdia Daragh and Eoin the P.7 class. The assembly will last approximately 1 hour.
STAFF TRAINING – P.1-4 teachers will be attending Phonics Training (Sounds Write) on Monday the 17th to Thursday the 20th of June. Substitute teachers will be in school to cover on Tues-Thurs. More information to follow in September regarding this new Phonics Program in school.
MOVE UP DAY – CHANGE - Due to Staff Training this will now take place on Thursday the 13th of June. On this day, from 9am to 12pm each pupil will go to the class which they will be a member of in September 2019. Our new P.1 class will be present in school. This date doesn’t coincide with the Post Primary Taster Days so our P.7’s will be taught in the library on this day and the P.6 & 7 will be taught together.
SPORT’S DAY - will be held on a good day during the week beginning 10th June for all of the children of St. Mary’s P.S. A text will be sent out to all parents as soon as possible before we plan to have it. The class races will begin at 10am and finish at 12pm approximately. Parents are very welcome to watch and possibly even take part.
FIRST HOLY COMMUNION - Well done to all the girls and boys who received the Holy Eucharist for the first time on Saturday 1st of June in St. Mary’s Church Maguiresbridge.
Thanks also to the P.5’s - P.7’s children who participated in the choir, which was beautiful. A special word of thanks to Mrs Quinn for making it such a special day for the children and having them so well prepared. Thanks also to Miss Charlene Murray and Miss Bregeen Murray who prepared the choir and music so beautifully. We would sincerely like to thank Canon Jimmy for his role on the day which made it even more special.
CONGRATULATIONS - CAOIMHE GARTLAN - Congratulations to Caoimhe Gartlan P.5 who won the NI Translink Poster Competition. The theme of the competition was to promote an Eco-Friendly message. Caoimhe’s Prize was an all expense’s trip to The City Hall in Belfast for the Award’s Ceremony for herself and her P.5 class and also her poster has been placed on a Translink Double Decker Bus so keep an eye out for Caoimhe’s bus.
CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS - Congratulations to all the P.4-P.7 children who participated in the County Cross Country Finals in the Bawnacre on Thursday 23rd May. Special mention to all those children who finished in medal positions and the boy’s team who were awarded best overall on the day, a really proud and wonderful achievement.
GAA CUMANN NA MBUNSCOL - Division 2 Boys and Girls: P 5 - 7 boys will take part in a Gaelic football tournament on Thursday 6th June in the Bawnacre Irvinestown. The top two teams will then play in the Division 2 final in Brewster Park on the 12th of June. Congratulations to Rory Clifford P.7 who represented St Mary’s at the half time exhibition game during Fermanagh’s recent championship match.
P.5 ST. MICHAEL’S GAA BLITZ - Congratulations to the boys and girls in P.5 who finished second in their group in the P.5 blitz which is organised by St. Michael’s college every year. In the run to the final the children had wins against Newtownbutler, Mullanaskea and Belcoo. The children then played their hearts out in the final against Newtownbutler only to be beaten by an injury time goal, disappointing but the children played brilliantly to reach the final unbeaten, well done children.
AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS
Cycling Proficiency for P.7’s will continue 2pm to 4pm for two days a week (Thursdays and Fridays) for the first two weeks of June, finishing on Friday 15th of June.
Homework Club will continue on Wednesdays during the month of June. The last homework for this academic year will be Wednesday 26th June.
Spanish Club. Spanish after schools is finished for this academic year. We are uncertain if it will return in September as funding for this program has been cut.
ANNUAL SCHOOL TRIPS -The Primary 5 to 7 children will travel to Tayto Park on Tuesday 25th June for their end of year school trip. The cost of this trip is £10 per child. Children will return from this trip at approximately 6pm. Payments should be paid on or by Wednesday 19th June please.
P1 – 4 will go to J’s Playhouse Fintona on Monday 17th June. Cost £5 per child which includes lunch. Money raised from our Clothes Collection will part fund this trip. Children will return from this trip at 2pm.
SHARED EDUCATION TRIP - There will be a Shared Education Trip to Clones Peace Link for Primary 6 & 7 children on Monday 10th June. This trip will end this year’s program on a celebratory high with a fun Sport’s. The bus is paid for, but the children are required to pay £4. The children will require lunch and wear in PE clothes. The children should wear clothes to suit the weather. We will depart 9.30am and return to school at 2.45pm approx.
TOM SWEENEY – As a special end of year treat for the children we will have Tom Sweeney the renowned local Musician playing for the children on Friday the 7th of June. Tom will have session for P1-4 and the P.5-7 classes.
PAYMENTS - Could you please send money into school that is outstanding for dinners, music, milk, and snack before 26th June. Thank you.
MISSING BOOKS - Coming to the end of 3rd term and before we break for the summer holidays, we would ask all parents to check at home for any reading or text books which are still at home and belong to school. Please send them in with your child so that we can order appropriately for the next year.
